RFcore supplying AESA Radar, the core technology of drone defense, through Hanwha Systems

In the endeavor to establish an anti-drone defense system against unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) and drone attacks, domestically developed Active Electronically Scanned Array(AESA) radar technology is set to be employed.   Wireless communication technology specialist, RFcore Co., Ltd.(CEO Jeon Gye-ik), announced its contribution to the Anti-Drone System project led by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. The company will supply domestically developed AESA radar, marking a significant achievement for Korean small and medium-sized enterprises in the field.   RFcore has overcome a decade-long reliance on foreign-made beam-forming chips in the development of AESA radar. Through independent efforts, the company has achieved the localization of crucial elements such as beam-forming chips, algorithms, and software for radar technology.   The Anti-Drone System project commissioned by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration focuses on defending critical facilities against UAVs and drone attacks. Last December, Hanwha Systems secured a 300 billion won contract for the high-altitude anti-drone system.   RFcore's domestically developed state-of-the-art AESA radar technology has earned high praise for its contribution to the stability of the system and the national defense capabilities. The company is poised to supply the core technology in the radar field for the high-altitude anti-drone system contracted to Hanwha Systems.   AESA radar, functioning by rapidly scanning beams electronically to detect and track targets, is deemed essential for enhancing the efficiency of anti-drone operations.   The localization of AESA radar technology, recognized as a core competency in the Anti-Drone System project, is expected to not only strengthen national security but also elevate the competitiveness of the Korean defense industry.   Jeon Gye-ik, CEO of RFcore, expressed pride in the collaboration with Hanwha Systems in the anti-drone project, stating, "We take pride in contributing to the country's security by providing cutting-edge radar technology through our collaboration with Hanwha Systems." He added, "We will continue to lead technological innovation in the defense sector, promoting the growth and technological localization of the domestic defense industry."   RFcore has been at the forefront of the radar segment in the domestic anti-drone market, having supplied AESA radar to various public and national institutions since 2010. The company achieved the commercialization of Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor(CMOS) based 1-channel and 4-channel Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits(MMIC) through a joint civilian-military technology cooperation project, marking a global first. 강동현 기자 kang_donghyun@koreadaily.comtechnology supplying radar technology drone defense core technology
